This module provides an overview of professional and contractual responsibilities of a Quantity Surveyor in the consultancy setup from the inception stage to the final account stage. It focus on the importance of a clear understanding of the organization and contract administration of quantity surveying practices and the legal and contractual procedures in relation to built environment. Our lecturer, Sr. Eddie Lim always briefly explains the topic he is going to teach on every lecture. Through this, we are able to understand the concept of every chapter briefly before proceed to them.

For our mid-term test, we are tested on construction disputes with interim certificate, delay and dispute and construction claims. Sr. Eddie Lim told us that the overall result of this exam is not encouraging and he advises us to work hard on final exam.

Besides that, there are two coursework assigned to us in this module. The first coursework is to carry out a seminar on tutorial session on the topic selected by our lecturer. In addition, our lecturer also randomly selected two persons to present on a selected topic. Through this seminar, I am able to understand better on every lecture as the questions will be asked and attempted.

Coursework 2 - Preparation of final account

Moreover, the second coursework is preparation of final account which is a group assignment form of 6 to 7 members. In this coursework, we are given one question on certain scenarios and required us to explain the basis on how the following variations may be priced during the Final Account stage. I found this question is the most challenging among all of the questions. After Sr. Eddie done marking our assignment, he explained to us the answer of the scenario questions and he also told us that there is no definite answer as long as are supporting with reasons and clauses stated in PAM Contract 2006.

Overall, I am able to define the roles and responsibilities of the various parties involved in construction contracts in relation to particular clauses in the contract. In addition, I am also able to explain the various construction contracts, its limitations and constraints and define issues in interpreting the contract clauses of construction contract. This module is not easy as more hard work is needed in order to score better in finals.
