AutoCAD (QSB 1823)

This module is able to help us become familiar with the main components of a CAD system, master the basic skills of a computer operating system and become familiar with common terminology used in computing. We are given a good understanding on the basics of AutoCAD which enable us to produce accurate and fully dimensioned drawing. After mastering this software, we are able to to produce detail drawings, covering orthographic projection, dimensioning principles, sectioning, auxiliary view, assembly drawing and text.

This module consists of two projects and a hands-on test. The two projects are geometry and architectural drafting& area calculation. For geometry project, we are needed to select one paper cutting art pattern of our choice by internet researching and reconstruct the patterns using AutoCAD. Geometry project is able to let us recognize, execute and implement basic AutoCAD commands. Besides that, we are required to produce a complete set architectural drawing which involves a roof plan, floor plans, elevations and cross sections. Then, the floor areas are required to calculate. Through architectural drafting& area calculation project, we are able to recognize basic AutoCAD commands and conventions and also execute AutoCAD commands in solving 2D drafting as well as design problems. We can complete draft and design tasks with given instructions either individually or in a team after this project is done. Other than that, the hands-on test enables us to execute basic AutoCAD commands with given instructions and complete a simple AutoCAD drawing on the spot.

For me, I found that this module is very interesting however it is time consuming in doing the projects. After I learn to use Autocad, it is very convienient for me to produce a drawing. For example, in measurement subject, we are required to draw the plan of the building and Autocad helps a lot in this.
