This module covers the measurement of windows, doors, roof trusses, roof finishes, roof drainage, seeding and turfing, fencing and gates, structural steel works and metal works. Among these topics, I found that timber roof structure is the hardest topic for me as I need to identify carefully before calculations are made. This topic also has a lot of items need to be measured which include roof structure, roof coverings and roof drainage.

 

          In the beginning of lecture, our lecturer, Mr. Soon Lam Tatt always explained the items that need to be measured and the SMM clauses which needed to apply for that day's topic.  He always makes sure that we have really understand on the particular items before he proceed on to his lecture. For example, he gave us time to ask questions and explained to us one by one.

 

          For our mid-term test, we are tested with the metal frame door. In this mid-term test, we are required to write taking off list and bills of quantities. Our lecturer requests us to practice bills of quantities and tested us in mid-term test in order to let us know how to produce proper bills of quantities. Besides that, we are required to write SMM clauses in taking off list so that we are able to know the items we measured are related to which clauses.

 

          Other than that, our group assignment is related to doors and windows. In this assignment, we have chosen Suriamas Condominium as our building to measure. This assignment helps me to do revision as I need to recall back those chapters taught by lecturer. I have consulted my lecturer about the difficulties I faced when doing this assignment. This assignment is very useful to us as we can overcome any problems when encountered with different situations. In addition, we are also able to come out with different descriptions according to different situation.

 

          In conclusion, I think Measurement 3 is not easy as it requires us to have total understandings about the drawings before we do any calculations. It is also very important for us so I will spend more time to study this subject in order to score well in final exam.
