This module explains the fire protection system, vertical transportation system, mechanical air-conditioning system and electricity generation and supply system. Our lecturer for this module is Mr. Teh Bin Sin. Among of all of the topics I mentioned before, I think mechanical air-conditioning is the most difficult topic for me. This module actually is not that hard once we understand the principle. For me, the hardest part of this subject is the drawing. The drawing is very complicated and we need to memorize the drawing before exam. Lecturer told us that we must practice our drawing before exam because one drawing may carry a lot of marks.

 

During lecture, Mr Teh showed us some videos in order to let us have a better understanding about he taught us before that. Besides that, we have done a lot of exercises which prepared by our lecturer during tutorial. We also have a presentation on the heat detectors and smoke detectors during tutorial although it is not counted mark. Through this presentation, we are able to understand more about the heat and smoke detectors such as the structures and how they work.

 

In our mid-term test, we have tested on fire protection system and vertical transportation system. The section view of electric lift and the method of light scattering smoke detector and laser beam detector function are needed to sketch in mid-term test. Most of us did quite well for our mid-term test so he also hopes us also can score well in our final exam.

 

For group assignments, we were asked to choose a building as our case study and explained one out of four of the building services systems. Our group has chosen Block D, Taylor’s University as our case study and we explained about the fire extinguishers in this building. We faced a lot of difficulties in doing this assignment but we did not hesitate to consult our lecturer. He was so patiently to explain the parts that we do not understand. Through this assignment, we are able to know more about fire extinguishers and other systems which presented by other groups. Other than that, I know cooperation between group members when doing group assignment can produce a great work.

 

Lastly, I will spend more time to practice my drawing as it might carry a lot of marks in final exam.
