This module covers the topic of common Industrialised Building Systems (IBS), various types of retaining walls, curtain wall, dewatering at construction site, prestressing technology, bridge construction, tension membrane roof and steel roof trusses.  Prestressing technology is the hardest topic for me among these all topics so I have to work hard on in order to score good results in final exam.

 

          Our lecturer, Mr. Chiew Seng Khoon always shows us videos to assist us in understanding the principles of every chapter. Besides that, he also provides a lot of pictures or photos in our notes to help us have a better understanding on our syllabus. During tutorial, we are able to question out the part that we do not understand. He explained it repeating when we are still confusing about it.

 

          For mid-term test, we are tested on IBS which are precast concrete and tunnel formwork. I think this mid-term test is so hard for me and also some of my course mates. Some of us did not do well for the mid-term test so lecturer asked us to focus on our group assignment and final exam. For this semester, there is no more individual assignment so group assignment consists higher marks for this semester.

 

          For our group assignment, we are required to visit a building site or more to observe one of the construction process related to the Industrialised Building System practiced in Malaysia. My groupmates and I went to a site named Kompleks Anak Yatim Darul Kifayah and it is a precast concrete construction. Through the group assignment, I am able to understand more on IBS in Malaysia and make my revision for that topic easier. In addition, group assignment also makes me understand the teaching of lecturers practically. For example, we are able see the ways they connect some of the precast components together.

 

          Overall, I think Construction Technology 3 is the hardest subject among the four subjects and it is very important because it related to measurement. As I mentioned before, this module is very hard so I need to spent more time for my revision and to consult my friends or lecturer if I have any difficulties when doing revision.  I just hope I can score better for my final exam.
